Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
Servings: 4
Ingredients:
Wyda aluminum foil (4 sheets, approximately 12×12 inches each)
4 tilapia fillets (about 5 ounces each)
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 4 pieces
2 teaspoons fresh dill, chopped
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
½ teaspoon salt
1 lemon, thinly sliced (optional)
4 tablespoons white wine or vegetable broth (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Prepare your workspace by laying out 4 sheets of WYDA aluminum foil, approximately 12×12 inches each. The superior strength of WYDA foil means you don't need to double-layer, saving resources while ensuring perfect results.
Place one tilapia fillet in the center of each foil sheet.
Season each fillet evenly with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Top each fillet with ½ tablespoon of butter and sprinkle with fresh dill.
Optional flavor boost: Add a slice of lemon and 1 tablespoon of white wine or vegetable broth to each packet for extra moisture and flavor.
Fold the foil to create sealed packets. Bring the long sides of the foil together above the fish and fold down several times to seal. Then, fold in the ends to complete the packet. Make sure to leave some space inside for steam to circulate.
Place the packets on a baking sheet and bake for 18-20 minutes. Cooking time may vary slightly depending on the thickness of your fillets.
Carefully open the packets (watch for escaping steam) and serve. You can either transfer the fish to plates or serve directly in the opened foil packets for a fun presentation.
Chef's Tips for Perfect Foil Packet Fish:
Even sizing matters: Try to select tilapia fillets of similar thickness to ensure they all cook at the same rate.
Don't overfill: While it's tempting to add lots of vegetables to the packets, too much moisture from vegetables can dilute the flavors. If you want to add vegetables, consider quick-cooking options like thin asparagus spears or cherry tomatoes.
Check for doneness: Perfectly cooked tilapia should flake easily with a fork and appear opaque throughout.
Make it your own: This basic recipe is incredibly adaptable. Try Mediterranean flavors with olives and tomatoes, or go Asian-inspired with soy sauce, ginger, and green onions.
